MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Two people were shot on Labor Day morning, according to Memphis Police Department.
The shooting happened before 11:30 on Pershing Avenue, in the Binghampton neighborhood.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Minutes after the gunshots took a young man's life, family members of the victim arrived running onto the scene, overcome with emotion.
"It's just sad," said neighbor Michelle Farmer. "I have grandkids; it's just sad. It's not even my family but I'm so emotional right now."
Family members didn't identify the victim's name. However, they did say the man who died was in his early 20's and a father of three children.
"My kids know the kids," Farmer said. "They (are) my kids age that's out here dying. Something needs to be done."
There is no word on any possible suspects at this time.
