Kirby High School to reopen after week-long pest treatment

Kirby High School resumes classes Tuesday after pest infestation

SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - A Mid-South high school will reopen Tuesday after being closed for a week due to a pest infestation.

Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dorsey Hopson said the health department consulted Kirby High School.

Maintenance crews also worked long hours to get rid of the infestation.

Hopson posted video and photos to social media of the efforts after he toured the school with Board Member Kevin Woods.

Hopson said he appreciates the hard work and long hours maintenance crews have put in.

Students and staff were out of class for four days last week.

According to Hopson, Kirby High's principal has a strong plan to make up lost instructional time.
