Missing person case leads to homicide arrests

What began as a missing persons case turned into a seven month investigation and it all came to a head Friday with four arrests.

In March, the the wife of Taj Rafiq Muhammad-Scott reported him missing when he failed to return to their Raleigh apartment on Scott Crossing Drive.

For seven months, the Memphis Police Missing Persons Unit had no leads, but then in September some red flags prompted them to turn this case into a homicide.

After investigating for two weeks, homicide detectives uncovered several young men who they believe were involved in Muhammed-Scott's disappearance.

Charged with first degree murder in this case: 22-year-old Brian Boyce, 24-year-old Jacob Buggs and 18-year-old Thaddeus Carruthers.

Also under arrest is 18-year-old Brandon Cunningham. He's charged with facilitation to wit: first degree murder, which is similar to assessory to murder.

People who live in the area say they're glad there is closure, but they're saddened.

Police think this is a gang-related murder and they're looking for more information. They say there could be more charges.

At this time, they still cannot find Muhammed-Scott's body.
