A deadly house fire is under investigation tonight. Flames broke out in the eraly morning hours at a home in the 1400 block of May Street near Clayton Avenue.
The fire gutted the house, leaving behind bricks and little else.
Neighbors told us the fire spread so quickly through the house there was not much they could do.
"The fire was very intense you couldn't have got in and you couldn't have got out," said neighbor Donnie Miller. "You couldn't save him. Man, the fire was really intense."
Firefighters had the blaze knocked down within 20-minutes, but the man inside the home did not survive. He has not been positively identified yet.
Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
