Germantown police officer charged after crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - An off-duty Germantown police officer has been charged with drunk driving following a car crash.

Officer Scott Panaia was arrested after he reportedly rear-ended two vehicles while driving his personal vehicle. A police report states Panaia smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech when he was arrested at about 8 a.m. Saturday.

Panaia has also been charged with public intoxication and reckless driving.

Memphis police are investigating the wreck. Germantown police chief Richard Hall says his department will conduct an internal investigation.
