Mid-Southerners Lend a Hand to Hurricane Victims

The Voodoo Music Experience took downtown Memphis by storm Sunday. Twenty-six bands performed at AutoZone Park to raise money to rebuild New Orleans. The concert is usually held there, but Hurricane Katrina foiled those plans. Memphis offered to host Voodoo Fest, but then the New Orleans mayor asked them to come back. Organizers decided to split the dates. They held a free concert in New Orleans Friday night and a benefit concert here in Memphis Saturday night. Concert headliner, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, lived in New Orleans for 14 years.

"It really is the closest place I have to home. I have a lot of friends there and seeing it not only wiped out through an act of God, but through my opinion, incompetence in a federal level of response is heartbreaking," he said.

It's unknown how much money was raised. Close to 10,000 people attended and tickets cost $35.
