Police nab carjacking suspect

Memphis police Sgt. Vince Higgins says John Henry Michael Griffin led them on a chase in October 28 then threatened them with a gun,"He turned with the weapon again, officer fired and killed Mr. Griffin."

As police did a routine investigation they found Griffin was a piece of a puzzle they need to solve a series of crimes, "The Ford pick-up was stolen as were the tags on the Ford vehicle. They were reported as taken in a car jacking."

These police reports list a series of carjackings that have taken place in areas near the East and West precincts.

Police believe Griffin, along with Travis Harges, who was with him during the chase, were involved in those crimes.

October 23, a VW Beetle was car jacked in the 1500 block of Linden.

The victim said quote "The suspect pulled out a 'very shiny' chrome automatic and told her not to scream."

October 28, a woman driving a Toyota Corolla was forced to stop her car near Holmes and Aquarius by two men with guns.

The police report reads: "Both suspects went through the vehicle and trunk, taking victim's purse. Suspects left victim standing by the road."

Sgt. Higgins says witnesses identified Griffin and Harges as being the persons involved in those car jackings."

Griffin is dead, Harges in jail but police think others involved are still on the streets.
