State will seek adult trial in killing, woundings

The prosecutor for Campbell County says he'll ask that the boy arrested in a fatal school shooting be tried as an adult.

District Attorney Paul Phillips also said this morning he'll seek a first-degree murder charge against 15-year-old Ken Bartley Junior.

Phillips says no other students were involved in yesterday's shooting that killed Campbell County High School Assistant Principal Ken Bruce. Principal Gary Seale and Assistant Principal Jim Pierce remain in serious condition today at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Both suffered gunshot wounds.

The preliminary hearing for Bartley could come tomorrow or be set over to Monday.

The youth is being held at a juvenile facility in Knoxville. Phillips says no one but Bartley is criminally responsible, noting the handgun came from the boy's home.
