Arraignment today for two accused of wrecking headstones

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Arraignment was scheduled for Thursday for a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy accused of wrecking a McNairy County cemetery.

Tommy Thomas of Selmer is the adult. The juvenile's name hasn't been released.

Investigators say the two smashed some headstones and toppled others at Oak Hill Cemetery, causing damage estimated between ten-thousand and 50-thousand dollars. Investigators say 79 monuments were damaged or destroyed.

Jimmy Whittington has been Selmer's mayor for 14 years and says he's never seen experienced anything in his administration that made him that angry.
