Tigers Football Loses Another Player to Injury

MEMPHIS, TENN. --- Coach Tommy West announced today that sophomore right guard Andy Smith will miss the remainder of the 2005 season after suffering a torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in practice Wednesday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Smith has started all nine games at right guard this season. He played every snap against Ole Miss, Tulsa and UAB. The Tiger offensive line has only given up seven sacks this season, which is the best in the league, and half of what UAB (which ranks second) has given up this year. Smith is also a key component in DeAngelo Williams rushing for 200 yards in four games this season.

Memphis, which ranks No. 1 in C-USA in rushing offense and fourth in passing offense, ranks fourth nationally in rushing offense and 40th in total offense.

The Tigers travel to Hattiesburg this weekend to face USM on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on CSTV with commentary from Tom Hart and Bill Burke. Kick off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
