TDOT shutting down work at noon Wednesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee road construction will wind down Wednesday for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Transportation Commissioner Jerry Nicely has told contractors and state crews to suspend work by noon because of holiday travel.

Nicely says AAA estimates show more than 700,000 Tennessee residents will travel over the weekend.

TDOT's own researchers predict a ten percent increase in traffic volume for the holiday weekend, with Friday being the busiest.

Friday is also traditionally the heaviest shopping day of the year.

Road construction will resume after morning rush hour on Monday.
