It turned into a battle of Williams'. Memphis' Shawne Williams and Duke's Sheldon Williams. In the end the Tigers had to settle for ALMOST notching their biggest win of the decade. The top ranked Blue Devils topped the Tigers 70-67 Friday night at Madison Square Garden.
Memphis had control for most of the first half, Rodney Carney soaring to the basket and the Tigers were taking it to number-1 ranked Duke with an early 15-6 lead (Carney had 12). In the 2nd half Duke opened up a small lead with Sheldon Williams leading the way with 30 for Blue Devils. The Tigers tied the game at 67 late thanks to Shawne Williams, he had 15 to lead the Tigers. But the other Williams tipped one in with 32 seconds left and Duke went up 2. The Tigers had a final chance to tie, but Shawne Williams 3-attempt missed at the buzzer and Memphis lost 70-67.
But they get ready for a great season ahead.
