The 2005 Memphis Tiger football team can be remembered as one that never gave up and came out winners in the end. Crippled by a multitude of injuries, they still managed a winning season. The final regular season game Saturday afternoon said goodbye to DeAngelo Williams and 15 other seniors. The University announced plans to retire DeAngelos number-20 next year.
The Tigers needed a win to become bowl eligible for the 3rd straight year, and there was never a doubt. DeAngelo started the scoring in the first quarter racing inside the pilon for a 7-nothing Memphis lead. Later in the 1st he scored again from short yardage. In all. 2 touchdowns for DeAngelo and 127 yards rushing. He ties the NCAA record for 33 games rushing for a 100 yards or more. Stephen Gostkowski kicked 4 field goals and the Tigers win 26-3 on senior day.
They could find out as soon as Monday where they are going bowling.
