University of Memphis mascot moves to Mississippi

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Olive Branch, Mississippi, is getting a new resident who eats 20 pounds of raw beef each day.

The University of Memphis mascot, Tom the Bengal tiger, will be moved soon into new quarters. His handlers want to get him away from civilization.

The former Memphis exotic animal farm where Tom has lived for most of his 14 years has been sold and the big cat has to be moved within 30 days. There are new houses going up within 100 yards of his current quarters.

The new facility is being built to mirror the habitat he's used to, but will have an improvement -- two pools.

For security reasons, the new location isn't being divulged, but it will be on more than four acres of private, undeveloped land.
