City experiences rash of robberies

A rash of bank and credit union robberies in the Mid-South has police asking for your help tonight.

The latest happened yesterday when gunmen held up the First South Credit Union on South Highland. Investigators say it was the 37th such robbery this year. That's 15 more than last year in Memphis.

Three of those robberies happened on the same day. Thieves held up the Healthnet Credit Union on Humphries, the Bank Tennessee on Poplar and Wachovia Bank just down the street on Dec. 2.

"It's possible that they are connected," said George Bolds, of the Memphis FBI office. "We don't have any hard evidence to support that right now."

What FBI agents do know is that it was a woman who robbed Bank Tennessee December 5. Investigators say they are looking for male suspects in connection with the other robberies.
