MPD pulls out of Metro Gang Unit

For years, city and county law enforcement agencies pooled resources to fight gangs, but now MPD is pulling out the Metro Gang Unit.

Director Larry Godwin says he needs his officers to concentrate on getting guns, drugs and gangs off the streets of Memphis.

"They're all intertwined, they're all together. But we've got to have a war on crime, we've got to get our streets back," Godwin said.

Both Godwin and Sheriff Mark Luttrell say the public will not notice any change in services.  But their will be a change in the way the departments split money seized in drug raids.
