Indians Leave for New Orleans Bowl

Hey, crack out the good crystal...bowl that is. The Arkansas State Indians are going to their very first bowl game since making the jump to Division 1-A in the late 1980's. The team filed off busses this morning at Wilson Air Charter bound for Lafayatte, Louisiana to play in the New Orleans Bowl against Southern Miss.

After going 5-2 in conference, the Indians claimed the Sun Belt Conference Championship on the last day of the season with a win over North Texas. Ironically, it was the only game they won on the road all season. Now, Head Coach Steve Roberts and his team can bask in the afterglow.  Roberts was rewarded today with a contract extension through the year 2010.

The Indians are playing in their first bowl game of any kind since 19-70. The New Orleans bowl is next Tuesday night at 7pm.
