Memphis Police search for phoney cops

Memphis police are searching for two suspects wanted in a string of robberies, crimes committed while posing as police officers!

These men had uniforms, badges, even guns...to their victims they looked like real cops, but they weren't.

Memphis Police want you to be on the lookout for Robbie Chandler and William "Geoff" McElroy.

Police have already arrested a third man, Brent Elliot.

The first incident happened December 8th around 11 o'clock at night in the parking lot of the Kroger off Riverdale Road.

Authorities say the suspects were wearing blue uniforms with gold star badges.. when they approached a woman and told her they needed to check her money to see if was counterfeit.

One of the men then pulled out a revolver and robbed the woman of $770.

The next night, the phony cops struck again, this time at the Willow Oak Apartments on Ketchum.

The suspects claimed they were checking a man for warrants, then they held him at gunpoint and robbed him of $220.

These are just the two cases, that were reported. Memphis Police fear their may be many more victims and they would like them to come forward.

Police also say if you are approached by someone who you think may be impersonating an officer, ask for identification. But they also warn that it's probably best to go ahead and comply with their demands so you don't get hurt.

If you have any information on these cases,  call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
