Mid-South Musician's mother's death ruled suspicious

Memphis police are investigating the suspicious death of a famous Mid-South musicians Mother.
Memphis Police C-S-I teams spent hours processing the grizzly scene inside Ruth Maxine Musselwhite's home on Manhattan Avenue Tuesday morning trying to figure out how and how long ago she died.
Memphis police say the call came in just after 10 Monday night to check in on the 93-year old Musselwhite.
"This time of year we always take special care.  In fact officers are often looking in on elderly people as they did with Ms. Musselwhite on occasion," said Memphis Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Vince Higgins.
Officers found Musselwhite's front door unlocked, her home burglarized and ransacked, and her body lying on the floor.
Police say it's possible she'd been there for weeks.
Neighbors told us they'd been concerned, because they hadn't seen Musselwhite in some time.
"She was real nice to us.  No problems whatsoever," said neighbor Sharon Hughes.  "She was the sweetest old lady you ever could meet."
Ruth Musslewhite is the mother of Grammy Award-winning Memphis Bluesman Charlie Musselwhite, who issued a statement saying:
"Obviously this is a sad time for myself and my family.  I have the utmost confidence in the Memphis Police department and am waiting to find out through their investigation the details of my mother's death."
Sgt. Higgins says right now those details are thin.
"It's a unique challenge to our homicide investigators in that we don't have a lot of information to go on," Higgins said.
Police say there are no obvious signs of how Musselwhite died or whether the burglary happened before, at the time of, or after her death.
Right now Memphis police say they're investigating this case as a suspicious death and a theft since several items from Musselwhite's home are apparently missing.
It will be up to the Medical Examiner to rule this case a homicide.
