The Memphis Tigers couldn't have written a better script to end the 2005 season. 3 straight wins, a Motor City Bowl triumph and a vintage DeAngelo Williams performance in his last game. After a sluggish 1st quarter against Akron the Tigers try a little razzle dazzles and it worked.
DeAngelo pitched back to Maurice Avery who delivered a perfect strike to Ryan Scott deep down field. That would set up the first of 3 touchdowns runs for DeAngelo, the Tigers were up 13-3 at the half. And what would this game have been without a signature run...he's had so many over the years.. Williams broke free for 67 yards in the 4th quarter setting up another touchdown to put the Tigers up 31-10. It's an NCAA best 34th game he's run for 100 yards. (A whopping 243 against Akron.)
But it wasn't quite over yet, Luke Getsy rallied the Zips for 2 touchdown passes in the final minutes. But the Tigers hang on to win the Motor City Bowl 38-31. They finish the season at 7-5.
