Soldier from Memphis gives birth to Hawaii's first baby of 2006

HONOLULU (AP) - A soldier from Memphis has given birth to Hawaii's first baby of 2006.

Army private first class Valerie Kyle gave birth to Ashlynn Janae Kyle at 12:26 am Sunday at Tripler Army Medical Hospital. She was born five days early, weighing seven pounds, six ounces.

Ashlynn's name was selected by her father, Linwood Harris, who was stationed in Hawaii but recently moved to Philadelphia for work. Kyle and Harris plan to marry soon.

Kyle is scheduled to leave Hawaii in a couple months to return to Memphis.

Little Ashlynn was greeted today by several members of the media but preferred sleeping over posing for the cameras.
