Woman accused of carjacking and attempted robbery appears in court

A Mid-South woman accused of carjacking a car salesman and trying to rob a credit union, all with her child in the vehicle, appeared in court Wednesday afternoon.

The facts that played out on surveillance video were laid out in court. Investigators said Meshay Wheaton car jacked a salesman while she was test driving a Range Rover. Then she used that vehicle while attempted to rob the Kimberly Clark Credit Union. Dewun Settle, Wheaton's attorney, didn't dispute the facts.

"I think the facts are what they are. But there's always more to any story than what you will hear at first," Settle said.

Wheaton's mother, Cary Granderson told Action News Five's Brooke Sanders that her daughter suffers from post-partum depression. "Do pray for my daughter, and we will be standing by her side," said Granderson.

Wheaton's attorney confirmed that his client has a "mental" history.

Meshay Wheaton faces federal attempted robbery charges and if convicted up to 20 years in prison. Her detention hearing is set for Monday. At that time, evidence will be presented concerning her bond.
