GOP tells indicted lawmakers to stay home from special session

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - State Republican Party chairman Bob Davis says two indicted lawmakers should not attend next week's special session on ethics.

Democratic Senators Ward Crutchfield of Chattanooga and Kathryn Bowers of Memphis are among five current or former lawmakers indicted on bribery and extortion charges. Both have said they plan to attend the special session.

Davis said it's a conflict of interest for the two to be there.

Democratic Party spokesman Will Pinkston called Davis' viewpoint "absurd."
