Midday murder shocks neighbors

Memphis police responded to a shooting call in the 1400-block of Boxdale at around noon Saturday.

"Preliminary indications are that a young man approximately 18-years-old was shot somewhere in this vicinity. He sought refuge in this home," said Lt. Joe Scott, of the MPD Homicide Unit.

The address is at the center of a busy neighborhood and investigators are hopeful someone nearby saw what happened.

"This was a crowded street there were a lot of children out here and there was apparently gun fire out here and we would appreciate any assistance that the community can provide us with," said Scott.

Regan Jones told us she went to school with the young man shot and killed Saturday afternoon.

"He was a nice gentleman, we was friends. And I just don't know what else to say this is unbelievable. I can't believe it," said Jones.

She is convinced that the shooting was some kind of misunderstanding.

"I'm just confused," she said. "I know he didn't mean to kill him. They was friends. They was real close friends. It was just a mistake."

What may have been a mistake still cost one-man his life.

Investigators identified the young man killed as Cordarro Williams. He was 17.

Police do have one-suspect in custody but no charges have been filed. They're still looking for information about what happened. If you can help call crime stoppers at 528-CASH.
