For those of you expecting the Tigers to take a drop in the National Rankings after Memphis' home loss to Texas last week...
Yes, the Tigers DID drop...
But, not very far.
How 'bout just One Spot.
The Tigers fall to 5th in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls..
Memphis, no doubt, helped by the fact several other Top 10 teams lost during the week, offsetting that home loss to the then 16th ranked Longhorns.
The Tigers rebounded strong with a blowout win over Middle Tennessee State, and a 10 point RPI builder yesterday over Winthrop.
U of M Head Coach John Calipari isn't interested in the Polls right now, just in getting his team better.
"You know, we're not close. Not close to being able to do what everyone wants us to do. Getting in the tournament, winning a game or two, yeah. But not close to what we have to do, how we play. How hard we play, how smart we play, how focused we are for an entire game."
The Tigers Rodney Carney is C-USA's Co Player of the Week along with Houston's Ramon Dyer.
Carney averaged more than 20-points a game in leading Memphis to a 2-and-1 mark during the period..
It includes a career high 37-point effort against Louisiana Tech.
The Tigers open Conference USA play at East Carolina Wednesday.
