Memphis man recovers after mugging

A Memphis man spent Wednesday recovering in the Med after someone mugged and shot him while he was walking home Tuesday night.

Douglas Wilson was walking down the 400 block of South Greer when the shooting happened.

Wilson's sister said he was shot in the chest and hip, and had to undergo several hours of surgery.

The location of the shooting was right across the street from a country club golf course. Wilson's sister said he was visiting a friend about a mile away on Newell, and decided to get some exercise by walking to his home on Highland, when he was accosted.

After the incident, area resident Lee Williams said he was tired of all the violence. "It's just sickening," he said. "I'm fed up with it. You know, day by day these incidents go on and on. Here it is the beginning of the year and we're still getting a lot of these cases going on."

Williams said he doesn't have any answers. He just wants the violence to stop.

Douglas Wilson spent most of the day in surgery as doctors tried to repair his hip and leg. His sister told Action News 5 it was not clear if he would be able to use his leg.

Investigators said it was an attempted robbery, and doesn't appear the suspects got anything from Wilson.

Currently, there are no suspects in custody.
