A man shot several times overnight during a home invasion

This morning investigators are searching for the men responsible for an overnight home invasion. The crime happened in the Harvest Park neighborhood in Southeast Shelby county.

Here's what investigators say happened. Around 10 o'clock last night the owner of the house went outside to empty the trash and ran in to three armed men. They forced him back in to the house. When they got in the house the woman who lived there hid in a closet, the men pulled her out and forced her to the floor at gunpoint. The men then took money and jewels from the home. They went looking for the man who lived in the house and when they found him they shot him several times in the legs. He went to the neighbors house and called police then came back to his house and collapsed.

Paramedics rushed him to the MED where he is in stable condition this morning. Investigators say there are ways to avoid situations like this. "Just be aware of your surroundings", said Sgt. Reginald Reed. "Make sure if you get out.. Make sure you have a porch light or some type of flood lights.. To make sure no one has snuck in or anything like that."  Two young children were also in the house during attack. They were not harmed.

This morning investigators are still trying to determine if the victim knows his attackers.
