Murder-for-hire plot exposed

Overnight developments in an alleged murder-for-hire plot. Investigators say a witness in a Memphis murder trial will live to testify.

Deputies say several men who were hired to kill the witness were caught last night in a Walgreen's parking lot on James and Hollywood. The Shelby County Sheriff's Department got a tip about a meeting where suspected hit-men were to get paid. Undercover officers swooped in after money was exchanged. The suspects then crashed into an undercover vehicle as they attempted to get-away. "This involves a man who was going to be a witness in that trial and we received information that this was going to be a contract killing regarding this man", said Steve Shular of the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.

Right now, there is no specific information about the trial in which the man is supposed to testify. Authorities say it does involve a local gang. The names of those arrested are not yet being released.
