TDOT plans closures this weekend on I-240 westbound at Airways

For the second straight weekend, work crews are set to shut down traffic from Westbound I-240 to Airways, which is the main artery to Memphis International Airport.

TDOT officials say the weekend work is necessary to repair concrete approaches to the I-240 bridge over Airways Boulevard. TDOT spokesperson Pamela Marshall said the approaches have been run down by years of normal wear and tear.

"One of the things drivers in this area get to brag about is that the roads do run so smoothly," Marshall said.

But those bragging rights come at a price, in this case long delays leading up to what airport officials call "push periods." Those periods run from 7:30 to 9:-30 in the morning, 12:30 to 2:30 in the afternoon, and, 4:00 to 6:00 in the evening.

TDOT officials have a standard warning for drivers: "Make sure you allow yourself plenty of extra time," Marshall said.

Those few extra minutes could save you hours figuring out how to reschedule the flight you just missed.
