Dixon gets new lawyer, trial date in April

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Former state Senator Roscoe Dixon got a new lawyer Tuesday. He also got a new date for his federal trial on corruption charges in the Tennessee Waltz scandal.

Dixon, one of five current or former state lawmakers charged with taking bribes from undercover FBI agents, is represented by Memphis lawyer Coleman Garrett.

Judge Jon McCalla set April 17th as a tentative trial date. Dixon's trial was scheduled to begin today, but his former lawyer stepped down after prosecutors pointed to a possible conflict of interest.

The Tennessee Waltz investigation became public in May. The first scheduled trial is now set for February sixth for former Senator John Ford, also a Memphis Democrat.
