Tunica County Sheriff's deputies gathered evidence at a home Tuesday where an argument during a dice game led to murder Monday night.
Sheriff's investigators said Kerris Black ran when another man started shooting at him. Black was hit at least 10 times. Officials said Black ran out of the house with the suspect shooting at him. Just before Black died, he told deputies who shot him. Officials said black identified a man named James Watts, or Duke, as the shooter.
It was the third murder this year in Tunica County, after only one murder was recorded in the county in 2005. Sheriff K.C. Hamp blamed the murderous crime spree on illegal guns, saying too many are on the streets.
"We need to let the violators know that gun crimes will really get you jail time," Hamp said.
Neighbor Minnie Staten agreed. "Probably there are too many guns on the streets," she said. "You've got to find a way to get them off the streets. I don't know what you're going to do to get them off."
