Shelby County CSA announces all utility assistance funds have been distributed

Officials from the Shelby County CSA Utility Assistance program announced Tuesday afternoon they had distributed all their funds.

The agency was allotted $535,000 in federal funds to distribute for emergency utility assistance, and gave up to $500 to each resident who qualified. Over a two day period, the agency scheduled 1,303 residents for utility assistance appointments, and had enough money to assist 1,070 of those.

The opening of the call center was hampered Monday morning by glitches in the county's telephone system which prevented people from getting through. After the glitches were fixed, officials said the call volume received by the agency was very high.
