NASHVILLE, Tenn (AP) -TennCare is no longer paying for Valium and some other drugs used to treat anxiety and seizures.
It's a move that some health care professionals question as unsafe.
State officials say the drugs are highly addictive and easily abused and that safe alternatives are available.
The TennCare change is in line with a Medicare change that took effect January 1st on orders from Congress.
TennCare will cover the drugs when they are administered during an emergency. TennCare officials say that for daily use, the cost is low and could be covered by the patient.
