Downtown standoff ends in manhunt

A standoff is over, but a manhunt is now on. Police blocked off the area near Mississippi Boulevard and Lauderdale for six hours Saturday looking for a murder suspect. Family members say the victim had gone to the suspect's home Saturday afternoon to settle an argument, and the suspect shot through the door. Officers got a tip the suspect was still inside so they shut down two-square blocks and evacuated nearby apartment buildings. When the TACT unit finally made their move to get their man, he was gone.

Family members are now in mourning.

"My cousin had four kids. Two girls, two boys. The children are devastated, his mother, the entire family. We're all devastated," DeWayne Benton said.

After the delay, Memphis Police are now launching a homicide investigation. They say they have some leads that could help them track down the suspect.
