They've been tip-toeing through land mines all season. And with 2 regular season games left to play, the 4th ranked Memphis Tigers have managed to avoid getting upset. But tonight sure was close as teh Tigers had to rally late to beat Tulsa 78-67.
John Calipari's team came in at 25-2 with Tulsa taking their best shot at the big guys. Ray Reese knocks down the jumper for the Golden Hurricane as both teams were trading shots early. Just before half Rodney Carney hits a 3 and the Tigers have a 5 point lead at intermission.
But coming out of the locker room the Golden Hurricane gets serious. Brett McDade canned a 3 from the corner. Then it was Darold Crow's turn and they take the lead 49-48. Tulsa still up 2 with under 6 minutes left when Shawne Williams took it to the basket like a man, drawing the foul and converting. (21 points fro Williams) The Tigers regained the lead at 63-62 and did't look bac going on an 11-0 run. Carney had 20 points and the Tigers survive, winning a close one 78-67.
