PTA funds misused at Dexter Middle School

A letter from Dexter Middle School's PTA president explained that money was missing from the PTA fund.

"I mean we've given money to the PTA. That's pretty bad. If they're taking money it's like stealing from us, too," said student Joseph Arellano.

The letter doesn't specify how much went missing, but explains that the person responsible has agreed to pay it back. County school administrators confirm that $5,000 dollars have already been returned.

We'd hoped to get more information from Dexter's PTA president Marie Brough but seconds into the interview Brough backed out.

Memphis PTA President Anabell Turner said, "I do not understand how one could steal, steal money from children."

Turner says PTA bylaws are the same statewide and require a paper trail explaining all expenditures.
