Operation Blue Crush carries out early morning sweep

Memphis Police rounded up dozens of suspects Thursday morning as part of the city's aggressive Operation Blue Crush anti-crime and anti-gang initiative.

Action News 5 was there when police began knocking on doors this morning.

Officers attempted to serve warrants on more than 50 people. Some were not home when police showed up, but those who were got handcuffed and taken to jail.

Memphis Police spokesperson Sgt. Vince Higgins said the initiative is making a difference.

"When we made entry into the house, he made a statement. He said, 'Is this Blue Crush? Am I getting caught by Blue Crush?' And the officers said, 'Yes, this is Blue Crush, this is the Memphis Police Department.'"

The District attorney also said he hopes to close down some reported drug houses for good.
