Mississippi troopers investigate father/son shooting deaths

COLDWATER, Miss. (AP) - A Tennessee father and son wanted for questioning in the slaying of a Memphis couple were shot to death Friday while trying to avoid a roadblock in Mississippi.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Delores Lewis says 69-year-old Frank Mosely and his son, 29-year-old Larry Brooks Mosely, both of Memphis, were killed in an exchange of gunfire with police.

Lewis says authorities set up the roadblock after a tip from Memphis police that the two were wanted for questioning in deaths 22-year-old James Smith and his 21-year-old wife, Stephanie, whose bodies were found Thursday inside a Midtown Memphis duplex.

Lewis says it has not been determined who fired the fatal shots. Autopsies will be conducted.

Memphis police spokesman Sergeant Vince Higgins says the couple was reported missing in Tunica on Sunday.

Higgins says Memphis police found the bodies were found in the attic of the duplex.
