Governor asks for disaster declarations for Dyer, Gibson counties

NEWBERN, Tenn. (AP) - Governor Bredesen has asked President Bush to declare Dyer and Gibson counties federal disaster areas, which would make them eligible for recovery aid.

Other counties could be added later as a result of deadly and destructive weather last night.

Bredesen plans to visit the area tomorrow.

He said today the first priority is helping those impacted to get back on their feet quickly and to bring back a sense of normalcy at a time when people need it most.
