NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - At least seven people were killed Friday by severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that swept across central Tennessee, state officials said.
All seven deaths were in Sumner County northeast of Nashville, said Eddie Boatwright, spokesman for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. He said the deaths were confirmed by hospitals and emergency workers but names of the victims were not yet unavailable.
Fire Chief Joe Womack said three bodies were pulled from the wreckage of homes in the Woodhaven subdivision of Gallatin, about 24 miles northeast of Nashville.
The three bodies were loaded into an ambulance in the neighborhood where hundreds of homes were heavily damaged and many destroyed.
