Proposed Tunica casino comes with big price tag

An artists rendition of what Myriad Botanical Resorts wants to put in Tunica County shows the largest and most expensive casino development in Tunica County. The cost of the proposed casino is one point nine billion dollars.

Webb Franklin with the Tunica County Convention and Visitors Bureau says, "Anybody who wants to spend one point 9 billion dollars in Tunica County is gonna have a dramatic impact on the area itself."

Myriad wants to put its casino and resort on 540 acres owned by a retired Tunica County Farmer. Its not far from Sam's Town and the Hollywood Casino.

The land owner Jack Perry told me his negotiations with Myriad are progressing and he thinks the project will happen.

Listen to what Myriad wants to do in addition to building several casinos: an 18 hole, 24 hour climate controlled golf course, indoor snow park, water park, a 450 foot observation wheel, luxury space, a convention center, and a three story multimedia night club called Lucid.

And that's just some of what Myriad wants to do.

A project of this nature really would change the face of Tunica itself and could be the next step in the evolution of our destination.

A spokesperson for the Grand Casino currently the largest casino resort in Tunica..says its too early to say what impact the Myriad would have but all of the casinos would benefit if it brings in more customers.

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
