Police officers in Collierville honored after rescue

Two police officers described as "heroes" have been honored by the City of Collierville.

Officers Gary Hylander and Jason Hooten were the first to arrive on the scene of a motor vehicle accident on April 28th on Highway 385 at Houtson Levee. The officers rescued the driver of the single vehicle involved in the accident while it was on fire.

"We didn't have time to think about our safety," Hooten said. "We knew that somehow we had to get the victim out of the burning vehicle."

Collierville Police Chief L.E. Goodwin was quick to point out that the officers' training helped them during the difficult situation. "I am proud of the performance of these officers,"Goodwin said. "They did an outstanding job."

The officers were awarded "Employee of the Month" honors by the police department.
