Police hunt for murderers after violent two-weeks

Memphis police made an arrest in their sixtieth homicide investigation this year.

Investigators charged Rodney McCracken with second degree murder in connection to a deadly shooting Friday night.

Officers believe McCracken got into an argument with Kiethon Watson.

Watson was found in the 1400 block of Merrycrest. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police do not expect to charge anyone else for Watson's murder.

While that case appears to have been solved, other aren't. In the last two weeks, we've had a murder almost every day.

Police incident reports show 12 murders in the last 14 days. That includes a murder that happened two weeks ago today, when a gunman shot and killed a man outside a convenience store.

Most of the murders were shootings and the majority happened in the East and West precincts.

One murder happened on South Willet in the West Precinct. A man and a woman were walking up to their home when a man came up behind them and shot the man.

Another murder happened in the North Precinct Friday. Witnesses say a gunman fled the scene after shooting a man to death. The case is unsolved so far.

While there haven't been any convictions for any of these crimes, we followed up on these murders and learned that arrests have been made in about half of the 12 murders.

Neighbors say it's reassuring that investigators have been diligent in pursuing suspects.

Memphis police are searching for a known suspect in a separate Friday homicide.

Christopher Sanders was found shot to death at the Ridgecrest Apartments on Shady Vista. Witnesses saw the gunman run away from the scene.

Officers are currently looking for more information.
