Mosquito pool in Shelby County tests positive for West Nile

The Tennessee Department of Health Laboratory in Nashville recently identified a mosquito specimen from Shelby County that tested positive for the West Nile Virus. Officials with the Shelby County Heath Department said Monday the positive test indicates that West Nile Virus is present in Shelby County.

In a press release, officials with the Health Department said they were strongly encouraging all residents to take measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes through the use of repellents and protective clothing.

Vector control crews will begin spraying to kill adult mosquitoes in zip codes 38128, 38108, 38122, and 38127 on Tuesday night.
