Students help bridge the gap at Stax Music Academy

Before a LIVE studio audience Monday, a group of students at the Stax Music Academy bridged a gap...between the past and future of Memphis sound.

Watching in the crowd were legendary Stax artists Booker T Jones and Steve Cropper...musicians this young saxophonist has idolized for years.

Student Carl Catron says, "That's gotta be the most exciting thing ever...i mean I grew up on it...and at home that's all I have is oldies."

Carl Catron is one of 14 Stax students about to take the legacy of Booker T and other Stax artists across the globe...with two summer concerts scheduled in Italy in July!

Stax legend Steve Cropper is thrilled!

Cropper says, "It's a real great feeling of accomplishment and the fact that you did it with people and it brings back the memories and that's what it's all about. History keeps the planet moving."

In less than two months...this band will get moving...taking top billing at the Porretta Soul Festival in Porretta Terme, Italy...where they will perform in Rufus Thomas Park -- the so-called "Soulsville" of Europe.

It's a big performance...with even bigger lessons to be learned.

Cropper continues, "When we're here, we're all for the sake of the group, we're all one team, so either we all sink or we all swim."

If this performance...in front of this crowd...is any indication of how Carl and the rest of the band will do...Memphis music -- and the young musicians making it -- should be just fine.
