Replacement gorilla dies on trip from Memphis to Erie Zoo

A male gorilla died while being transported from the Memphis Zoo to one in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Tumai, a 21-year-old lowland gorilla, died during a flight Thursday.

The body was taken to the Cleveland Zoo, where a necropsy was scheduled today.

Officials said he just stopped breathing while under sedation during the trip.

Tumai was going to replace a 49-year-old gorilla who died last March.
