NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The state Transportation Department is stopping all highway construction projects tomorrow afternoon for the Memorial Day weekend.
T-DOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely says work won't begin again until Tuesday morning. There still could be some lane closures on long-term highway projects, but there won't be people working at the sites.
Despite higher fuel prices, the Triple-A Auto Club South expects travel to be up slightly this Memorial Day compared with the same three days last year.
The club estimates 685,000 Tennessee residents will travel during the weekend, with nearly 555,000 of them projected to drive.
The holiday weekend begins at 6:00pm tomorrow and ends at midnight Monday.
