The Spring Fling is winding down in Murfreesboro, but there's still a few teams left from West Tennessee that battled it out for State Titles Friday. The Bartlett Panthers faced Knoxville Farragut for the Class AAA baseball title on the MTSU campus. 1st inning, an alert play by first baseman Dane Sharpe saved a run after he fielded a ground ball and fired home to get the runner at the plate. But the excitement is short lived though because David Reynolds followed with a bloop hit to right field, scoring the first of 7 Farragut runs. Bartlett can't get the bats going tonight, and the 3A title goes to Farragut 7, Bartlett 0.
In 2A action now, Covington beats the University School of Jackson for all the marbles. A big first inning got the Chargers going. First Robbie Anderson had an RBI single to right scoring Gunter Delashmit. Then Joshua Posey hit one in the gap to left, that brings home Anderson and Covington is up 4-0 after one. 3rd inning 6-0 now, bases chucked for Delashmit....he drives one deep to left but watch the great catch Zach Smith makes as he crashes into the wall. But it was Covington's day, they get the win 9-1. Congratulations to the Covington Chargers, they are the Class 2A champions!
In softball the Covington girls beat Marshall County earlier in the day to advance to the finals against Goodpasture. But their luck runs out, Goodpasture wins the Class 2A softball title with a 6-1 win tonight over Covington.
In track, congratulations to the Hamilton Boys track team, they win the overall 3A state title.
