MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A top FBI agent in the Tennessee Waltz investigation took the witness stand in a Memphis court today.
Joseph Carroll testified at the federal bribery and extortion trial of former state Senator Roscoe Dixon.
The Memphis Democrat is among five current or former state lawmakers charged with taking payoffs from an FBI front company called E-Cycle Management.
Carroll said the FBI developed a business model for the company that would not compete with any legitimate businesses in Tennessee.
He said the company also needed legislation that would only benefit it.
Carroll said none of those who allegedly took bribes "questioned us about the way our business operated."
