Man beaten and robbed in Southaven park

Southaven police are investigating a beating that happened Wednesday at a popular park.

Police officials said the robbery occurred in a parking lot at Greenbrook Park.  As a man was sitting in his car just after noon, a suspect walked up to the car and asked him for money.  When the man refused, the suspect hit him several times with a gun, until the man handed him his billfold.

Police said the timing of the robbery was surprising because the park is a popular place to eat lunch.

Officials said the suspect's car had Tennessee plates, and was last seen heading toward Airways Boulevard.

The victim was not seriously hurt, and declined medical attention.  Still, people who use the park every day said they now feel differently about a place they once felt safe.

The suspects were described as a man, working with a woman, both in their 50s or 60s.
